While pastoring a church in Virginia, Rev. Robert Dunphy wrote an article for the local newspaper called “Nuggets of Truth”. Someone that worked in the embassy in Burkina Faso, West Africa received that same newspaper. When they finished reading it, they threw it in the garbage. An African man named Nasse Emmanuel would get it out of the garbage and read it and got born again. Nasse contacted Bob through the address in the article because he wanted to know more about Jesus! He asked Bob to please come to Burkina and help him to learn about this wonderful salvation.
In 1988, Bob traveled to Burkina Faso, West Africa. Having never been out of the country before, he was very nervous to say the least. Jesus appeared to Bob, comforted and spoke to him. While to some this would be unusual, not to Bob. Jesus had previously appeared to him in 1980 as he was reading and meditating on Jeremiah 1:4-10. At that time Jesus spoke these words, “I have put healing in your hands.”
Upon arriving in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Bob met with Nasse and they began to work together, starting many churches. Many times they slept on the ground in the local bush villages and saw more and more the great need for churches and schools.
This humble beginning has now grown into a network of churches and orphanages reaching the nation of Burkina Faso and demonstrating the love and power of the Kingdom of God.
